NITNC Meeting Minutes 2/20/2018

Terry Deno opened the meeting at 7:00 pm. 25 Attendees
He welcomed everyone to the meeting. He has arranged for two presentations for our March 13th meeting. A representative from Avista will speak on Energy Savings/Programs and a representative from the Water Dept. will speak on Water Conservation.
Jeanine McKinney gave the Treasurerís Report. She thanked Nancy Perkins and Mark Davies for helping with the audit process. Current balance is $6,732.67. We received $41 in donations and $62 toward the summer concert series. There is a grant available from the city for $550.00. The NIT council and all neighborhood members present agreed to apply for it. The council would like to use $500.00 toward the July concert at the Prince of Peace Church on July 11, 2018. The other $50.00 will be used for advertising costs for the yard sale.
Mark Davies reported from the Community Assembly the results from the mobile speed signs placed on Shawnee between Fotheringham and Moore in May 2017. Westbound traffic showed 30% of vehicles exceeded the 25mph limit. Eastbound traffic showed 44% of vehicles exceeded the limit.
The Office of Neighborhood Services is looking for volunteers to help with the Peaceful Valley Neighborhood Cleanup on April 28, 2018. Volunteers can sign up on the City Web Site.
Terry announced that the date for the Spring Neighborhood Curbside Pickup is April 17. The Fall one is scheduled for Oct. 16.
Karen Kearney was not able to attend so she asked Mel Neil to give an update regarding Excelsior.
They are in the process of turning their 37 acres into a level 1 arboretum for the community. They have 77 different types of trees.
Every Tuesday from 8:30-11:30 they welcome seniors to their administrative meeting area for senior morning. Seniors are encouraged to come and enjoy a mid-morning snack and visit and meet new friends.
Excelsior no longer has their female unit. They are trying to work more with families and clients in their homes, connecting them with services needed. They also offer medical services available.

Vern Paige presented some good information on Emergency Home Preparedness. He was an Air Force Survival Instructor in the 60ís. He teaches Home Preparedness for the City.
Luis Garcia (Office of Neighborhood Services) said they are looking into a Property Maintenance Code to address dilapidated structures in neighborhoods.
Jamie Bowman was introduced as the State Farm Insurance Agent who opened an office in the Plaza in January 2018.
Mel Neil announced the Neighborhood Yard Sale will be on Sat. June 23rd. Information will be mailed out in the next few weeks.
Terry closed the meeting at 8:15pm.
