NITNC Meeting Minutes April 10, 2018

Mel Neil opened the meeting at 7:00 pm. Terry Deno was not able to attend. 30 Attendees

Our Neighborhood Council received a letter from Rick Eichstaedt, the attorney that represented our neighborhood in the Morningside court case. The letter states that the matter has been resolved and the case is now being closed.
Mel mentioned that he will be resigning the Vice-Chair position in June. He asked for someone who would be willing to work with him now and then take over his position in June. He also asked for someone who would be able to take over the organizing of the Yard Sale next year.

There is a new slide in Pacific Park and new bark added. Terry has been encouraging the City Parks Dept. for awhile to replace the slide. Thank you, Terry.
The Agenda for the May meeting includes Angel Spell to talk about the Free Tree Program, and a presentation on Downsizing-Smooth Transitions.
Postcards have been mailed out regarding the Curbside Pickup on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
Jeanine McKinney reported a balance of $6,835.67 in the bank account.
Community Assembly Summary for April 05, 2018 --
Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane will be holding a tax solutions workshop on May 31 from 6 - 8 PM. Working families and the middle class pay up to 7X more of their annual incomes in state and local taxes than the wealthy. Working on bottom up solutions to flip our states upside down tax code.
The Spring Cleaning from the Corridor will be held in Peaceful Valley April 28th from 9 AM till Noon. More volunteers are needed, Sign up at
Reminder that May 7th is the deadline for the applications to be submitted for the neighborhood grant. Reminder June 4th is deadline for neighborhood cleanup.
Spring Construction is starting in full swing.
The combined Community Assembly and City Council will meet May 31st at the North East Community Center times TBD.
Candace Mumm gave us an update on the Indian Trail Road plans for next year.
Clara Strom gave a presentation on the opportunities available at the Spokane Libraries. There will be facility improvements coming to the libraries. There are open houses and town hall meetings planned for the public to attend and give their input. An e-mail blast was sent out to the members with the schedule of the meetings. The kids Summer reading program begins June 1st. There are many events coming up at the Indian Trail Library for kids and adults throughout Spring and Summer. For more information see:
Bryan Tafoya from Spokane Police Dept. spoke about the increase of Aggressive Panhandlers in Spokane. He said he has been approached by some aggressive panhandlers, sometimes repeatedly. His advice is donít give them any money. There are so many programs in Spokane that can help people who really need help and are willing to accept it.
He also warned the members about Scams. Contact the Better Business Bureau if you suspect a scam. They can help determine if a call is legitimate.
