Neighborhood Council Meeting
May 12, 2009

John Dietzman welcomed 45 attendees. His opening comments were:
-Spokane is hosting the Neighborhoods, USA National Convention next week. They are still looking for volunteers to help run the conference.
-Our next meeting on 6-9-09 will be our Meet the Candidates Night where we will hear from the candidates who would like to be our Representative on the City Council for the next 3 years. Also, our State Representative for the 6th Legislative District, Kevin Parker, will say a few words...
- The Preliminary Binding Site Plan for the Childcare and Elder Care facilities proposed for the land between the Library and the ITC is approved.
-Construction has begun on the new Pacific Park Children’s Center day care facility in the Sundance Plaza behind Starbucks. Later, one of the owners, Jill Lempka, gave details of the operation which is targeted to open in August.

Paul Taylor, Neighborhood Resource Officer, Spokane Police Department gave us an update on the new Neighborhood Policing Program. He reviewed our crime statistics and fielded questions about our neighborhood’s chief concerns.

Steve Corker, City Councilman, described his recent trip to China and discussed the political and economic situation there and opportunities for increased trade between Spokane and the Chinese.

Election of Officers: The incumbent officers are all willing to serve another term with the exception of our Secretary, Patty Shadden, who would like to take a sabbatical. Curt Fackler is willing to fill that role, and Karla Hernandez, would prefer to continue to serve as backup Secretary. John Dietzman asked for additional nominations and there were none. Since there was only one candidate for each office, a motion was approved to vote for the entire slate at once rather than individually. The following slate of officers for the 2009-2011 term was approved with no opposition: John Dietzman and Ed Musser, Co-Chairmen; Dwayne Jantz, Treasurer; and Curt Fackler, Secretary.

Indian Trail Spring Cleanup: John Dietzman thanked all of the volunteers, property owners, and the many City Departments who worked together to accomplish the 2009 NITNC Spring Clean Up of Indian Trail Road. Special thanks went to the Street Department for the excellent job they did in flushing and sweeping up the sand and gravel from the sidewalks and gutters. We can all be justifiably proud of the improved appearance of Indian Trail Road.

Craig Culbertson reported on our NITN Yard Sale which will be on Saturday 6/20/09

Jim Bakke provided an update on Community Assembly activities.

Dwayne Jantz gave the Treasurer’s report.

Respectfully submitted, John Dietzman
